Is This Lavish Mansion Owned By Sen. Manny Villar?

February 24, 2010

Now there’s a circulating e-mail that contains intriguing pictures of an unknown mansion.

The e-mail starts with the question: “Who owns a house like this?” and then showed various pictures of the purported mansion, which had opulent Victorian-style interiors.

Then the email asks the following intriguing query: “Imagine who would have such taste and live in such opulence?”

  • An American Billionaire?
  • A Saudi Prince?
  • Louis XIV of France ?

Savour the pictures then scroll to the bottom of the page to see who owns this Work of Art.

The e-mail-sender ends his/her message with the following: “While Filipinos starve, and die because of abject poverty and while Sen. Villar brags that he had poor beginnings and he had helped his poor countrymen over and over again… but look now.. he and his family live like this, his GREED kills his poverty stricken fellow Filipinos.”

The circulating chain e-mail claims that this great wealth is owned by none other than Filipino billionaire and presidential candidate Senator Manny Villar. The Mansion is said to be located in Salt Lake City, Utah in the United States. However, Villar allies claimed the pictures of so-called Villar’s Mansion to be a “hoax.”

According to an ABS-CBN report, the politically intriguing e-mail has been circulating as early as 2008 and that the mansion was first linked to Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe. So it appears that this story really is a political hoax. (Check the story of snopes.com here).

The reports states:

A copy of the e-mail about Mugabe’s mansion also had the same wording as the recent e-mail about Villar, with minor changes to make it appear that it was written for a Filipino audience.

The Snopes website said that the mansion is not in Salt Lake City but in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. It also noted that the mansion has been extensively photographed because it is sometimes used as a site for TV shows and films.

Snopes also revealed that the mansion has been linked to various personalities such as former Nigerian military ruler Ibrahim Babangida, Indian film star Shahrukh Khan, and Edir Macedo, founder of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God.

In a phone interview, Nacionalista Party spokesman Gilbert Remulla downplayed the latest attempt to besmirch the reputation of Villar.

“Who would want to buy a mansion in Salt Lake City? Are there papers to support it?” he said, adding that there was absolutely no truth to the rumor.

He added: “The campaign being waged by Villar’s opponents reaches record lows everyday, starting with the false associations of ‘Villaroyo.’ It only shows that his opponents are insecure and desperate. We pray that they campaign on platforms and capabilities rather than mudslinging.”

At least one of those who forwarded the e-mail about Villar has apologized. Domingo Guevara Jr. of the Guevara Group of Companies apologized to the Villar camp for forwarding the bogus e-mail to his contacts. He said he issued his apology “not because I support Villar but I wish to be fair to all concerned.”

The Nacionalista Party claimed this e-mail hoax is the latest in a series of attempts to disseminate black propaganda against Villar, who is being linked to the C-5 Road extension scandal. The Senator allegedly used his political position and influence to cause the C-5 public road project to be constructed.

Villar allegedly made the insertion by virtue of his position as Finance chairman and as Senate president to ensure that his property would be paid right away. Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Villar went to the Senate on February 2 to deny the charges against him. He delivered a privilege speech, refused to entertain questions from his colleagues and left the session hall after his hour-long rhetoric. (Read part of his speech here.)

However, it is publicly known that Villar bought the historic 6,000-square meter Jose P. Laurel Mansion in Mandaluyong City. Former President J.P. Laurel stayed in the 3-story, 7-bedroom mansion dubbed as “Villa Pacencia”, which was erected in 1957. In 2008, the Laurel family sold “Villa Pacencia” to Villar and his wife Cynthia.

Whether presidentiable Manny Villar is a filthy rich or not, he reminds me of the following line from my favorite book Atlas Shrugged:

When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion–when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing–when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors–when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you–when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice–you may know that your society is doomed. Money is so noble a medium that is does not compete with guns and it does not make terms with brutality. It will not permit a country to survive as half-property, half-loot.

Manny Villar was already rich before he entered politics. Why did he entered politics? Perhaps to use the force of law to distribute the wealth from rich to the poor. If Mr. Villar is an objectivist or read something about the philosophy of Ayn Rand, perhaps the Philippines would have a better future.

I agree with you guys and most precisely Villar wanted to enter politics to protect his wealth and to gain more of it. The entire flashy jingles, posters and adds from his campaign was entirely a bunch of shit. Like he is the true MAHIRAP? , and whom experienced the true KAHIRAPAN? and he confidently show hes face in front of TV and said “why wasting my time entering in politics if what i want only is wealth where i currently running my own business”?. The answer is clear, he just wanted to earn more wealth and protect it. Also, they were only focusing on MAHIRAP, everything is for mahirap, mahirap, mahirap! ang galing talaga nilang mangloko, pati kaluluwa paglalaruan nila.

The pictures were taken like it’s for a magazine feature. no cars, maids, family photos, as if the mansion was thoroughly cleaned and ready for a pictorial.

I still believe he is the lesser evil, thus I am voting for him.

E-mail pics are obviously not true. Still, mas marunong magtago ng kayamanan si Sen. Villar. Adelfa properties pa lang, you can see na magaling gumamit ng interlocking properties yung mag-asawang Villar. A person who is a businessman at heart will remain a businessman to the end and cannot serve as a true leader. Unless, ipamigay niya lahat at mabuhay ng simple.

Villar is one of the Philippine’s Billionaires. It doesn’t make him less as a person if he owns this magnificent mansion. It’s pretty obvious that he can afford to have it, so why question his credibility to own one? It’s his money, are you envious? If you’re in Villar’s shoes, do you think you wouldn’t dare buy such a mansion if you can afford one? Don’t be like crabs people. It’s his money, it’s his privelege to own/buy what he wants. If you think that he is corrupt, then it’s out of question — he’s rich anyways.

I concur with TanTan. If you guys became rich, would you be able to deprive yourself the fruits of your labor?

I’d also like to add that if he’s true goal is the protection of his wealth, then he could have just stayed with local governance. With the money he and his family has, he could easily bribe those corrupt officials and politicians. No problems. Aiming for a position on the national level would be pointless, unless of course if his businesses are illegal or something like that. If he aims to gain more money, then it’s still the same. He could easily increase his assets with the type of (housing) business he have and not experience problems like these. Don’t rely on the media too much.

Yan ang mahirap sa “mahirap”…kasi sila ang punterya ng mga pulitiko. Mas marami ang mahirap sa ating bansa kaysa mayaman…same as religions…ayaw nila ng family planning para nga naman dumami ang mahihirap at sumama sa pananampalataya…coz if if you are mahirap…you are trying to cling on something…you have to believe in something specially if you are in trouble.

Way kayod…way kaon…

I just responded back to my classmate that WE DON’T GROW PALM TREES IN UTAH, except in St. George. Anything 4 hours north of it, will not have palm trees thriving outside their homes. Let alone, Salt Lake City (7 hour north from St. George) where this Senator is supposed to be living.

I sent a letter to him which I didn’t publish online.

      Here it is:

      Dear Sen. Villar,

This is my first time to write a personal letter to a politician. I don’t think this is necessary but let me give a try. Aware as I am of your busy schedule as President of the Senate and as a presidentiable, but if ever you have enough time to read this letter, let me say that even though I know only very little about your personal and political life, I am an admirer of your intransigent courage and determination which brought you to where you are right now. I felt compelled to send you a personal message after reading your interview with the Vera Files. I like your position on population. I don’t believe that population is the main problem in this country and I don’t buy the idea being peddled by the socialists in the Lower House—that population should be legislated. I don’t believe that a government can and has the right to legislate population.
I also admire your position on the RH Bill. I don’t believe this bill is necessary at all and has value, politically or philosophically. As President of the Senate, I am aware you know there are existing government agencies that can help deliver the (empty) promises of this socialist bill. But I don’t believe that the bill has to be opposed on religious grounds. The only proper justification against this bill must be grounded in the concept of individual rights. I have been campaigning against this bill and I firmly believe that RH care is not a right and that the government has the obligation to provide everything the people need (https://fvdb.wordpress.com/2009/10/26/reproductive-health-care-is-not-a-right/ ).
I do believe this country lacks intellectual leadership. Since this country was not founded on the right and proper philosophy (America was based on the philosophy of Aristotle), I say that we are now moving toward collectivism or socialism. The real threats to our freedom and individual rights are not the communists or socialists, but the universities that preach the ideals of altruism, self-sacrifice, and collectivism. The beneficiaries, I believe, of the country’s mediocre educational trend and culture of do-goodism sponsored by the so-called intellectuals are the socialists or collectivists.
This country needs a leader who knows how to defend capitalism. Why is it that a lot of people are supporting the RH Bill? It’s because they believe they have the duty and obligation to serve the welfare of others and that the government must play a role in people’s lives. Why are there a lot of people calling on the government to prolong its oil price freeze? Why punish oil companies? They cannot continue to sell oil products at a loss. The only economic system that can save this country is capitalism.
No, I don’t support the candidacy of Sen. Noynoy Aquino. I hope to see a presidentiable who’s not afraid to defend the ideals of capitalism. I believe you’re a man of self-esteem and pride. You have achieved your economic success through your courage, determination and love of life. Defend capitalism according to its virtues.

I hope someday they would stop badgering businesses to go their way just because a group of rallyist commanded them.
