Israel Vs. Social Media Propagandists
This very powerful photo has been circulating online for the past few days. Pro-Palestine bloggers and social media useful idiots immediately took it (without thinking) as very good and very useful propaganda material against Israel. The photo, which shows an unidentified little kid dressed up as a rabbit, is indeed very powerful.
But to the useful idiots’ and anti-Israel propagandists’ chagrin, the photo was actually taken by photojournalist Ziv Koren. The little kid is actually a Jew. He was identified as an Israeli and the controversial photograph was actually taken in the West Bank city of Hebron during the Jewish holiday of Purim in 2003. Here’s the photo’s original description:
“A young Jewish settler dressed as a rabbit for the Purim costume festival hides near a security barrier in the West Bank city of Hebron. May 2003. Biblical Hebron is home to a few hundreds hard-core settlers whose enclave, surrounded by hostile Palestinians, is guarded by the Israeli army.”
It was posted by hundreds of online sites, blogs and forums.
My online investigation shows that one of the first posters of the photograph is RedditPics that gave the following description: “Palestinian child in bunny costume hides from IDF soldiers”
Cheezburger, a very popular online site, picked it up and then posted it with the following caption: “Meanwhile in Gaza of the Day: A child in bunny costume playing peekaboo(?) with Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Soldiers.
Urban Gallery actually posted it in 2003. It says that the “the photograph appears in Ziv Koren’s book ‘More than 1000 Words’ (number 23).”
CarbonatedTV also posted the photograph with the following title: “Image of Palestinian Child in Bunny Costume Hiding from IDF Soldiers Creates a Buzz.” The supporting story says:
“Palestine and Israel may have reached a ceasefire agreement, but the feeling of fear and intimidation following six days of massive bombardment still remains in the air. This feeling of fear is quite clearly demonstrated by an image that was recently posted by a Redditorjonscotchon the website.
“There are multiple interpretations that can be made from the image. According to some the image shows a Palestinian kid dressed in bunny costume hiding from Israeli Defense Forcessoldiers. On the other hand, some claim that the child is trying to play hide and seek with the soldiers.”
Other anti-Israel blogs and social sites that posted the photo are as follows:
