A Scary “Aquino Prophecy” or a Villayoro Conspiracy?

Note: I first posted this blog at about 12:20 a.m. of May 11, 2010. I made some update on this blog post because Sen. Noynoy Aquino won the presidential race.

Do you now smell the possibility of an Arroyo-Villar team-up to turn Congress against President Aquino? This early I can predict that Mr. Aquino is heading for a shaky presidency characterized by power-grabs, betrayal, deception, and sinister political ambitions…

The battle is not yet over. It has just begun…

First, let me tell you that I don’t believe in predictions. However I’m posting this piece to somehow show you the unscientific

connection between an absurd prophecy and reality. The problem with predictions is that they are unscientific; they are grounded not in facts and reality-based evidence, but in the whimsical or mystical prowess of anyone who claims the ability to predict the future.

But there are a lot of historical predictions that turned out to be true. In 1983, Jeane Dixon made a stunning prediction about the future of the Philippines. A number of online sources claimed Dixon’s prophecy has two versions. I found one version on WikiAnswers:

In November 1983, just after the assassination of Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Jean Dixon had a prediction saying: “the widow of Sen. Aquino will become president…and even one of his children will someday try run for president but will be defeated by his own relative.”
Now, Dixon’s first prediction was true, Ninoy Aquino’s wife did become the president… And now, just after the death of his wife– Ninoy’s son, Sen. Noynoy Aquino, is now running for president in the 2010 May elections.

Is this version talking about presidential candidate Gilbert Teodoro who is blood-related to his presidential rival Sen. Noynoy Aquino? But as of this writing, Sen. Aquino is now leading the presidential tally followed by former president Joseph Estrada. There’s a very big possibility that Aquino would be declared winner.

But here’s the other version:

“The widow of Senator Aquino will become President and even one (1) of his children will someday become President but will be betrayed by a woman and a very rich man which will usher in the most corrupt era in Philippine history…”

Who is the “betraying woman” in Dixon’s crystal ball? Could it be outgoing President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who just won the congressional race in the second district of Pampanga? It’s no secret that Mrs. Arroyo would like to convert our semi-Republican system to parliamentary system to pave the way for her ambition to be the country’s first prime minister since the time of dictator Ferdinand Marcos. And who is this “very rich man”? Could it be Sen. Manny Villar who still has three years in the Senate? Despite pouring billions into political ads, Villar still lost the presidency to Sen. Aquino. This reminds me of Kris Aquino’s appeal to voters that his dear brother Noynoy needs allies in the Senate. “Please help my brother and elect his team for the Senate,” Aquino appealed in the interview.

It seems that Kris Aquino knows her politics well. Just imagine a Villar-dominated Senate and a Mrs Arroyo-dominated Lower House. Everybody suspects that Mrs. Arroyo tried to force charter change in order to change the system from semi-Republicanism to parliamentary system. Under a parliamentary system, Mrs. Arroyo has a very big possibility to extend her stay in power by becoming the prime minister since she has allies in Congress. On the other hand, Villar knows that he cannot win under a presidential system. So what I’m trying to imply is that an Arroyo-Villar tie-up is very much possible to perhaps “betray” President Aquino. Does this mean that an Aquino administration would be characterized by a series of power-grabs, betrayal, deception, and sinister political ambitions? Really Mr. Aquino needs to be very vigilant in order to protect the presidency.

So let reality prove the claim of Jeane Dixon.

Here’s what makes Jeane Dixon one of the most controversial psychics in modern history:

Probably the most famous psychic of our time was the ever popular Jean Dixon. On January 25, 1997, she passed away, but not before leaving a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten.

Her most famous prediction, and probably the one that got psychics in general the most attention, was when she predicted that President John F. Kennedy would die in office. As it turned out, Kennedy was assassinated while in Dallas Texas. Her actual prediction was that a democratic president elected in 1960, a tall young man with blue eyes and brown hair, would die in office. According to Dixon when interviewed she said that she told reporters that the president would be assassinated but they refused to print that part.

While she was alive, Dixon was an advisor to many famous celebreties including Ronald and Nancy Reagan. As a matter of fact, Nancy Reagan was constantly hounded by the press for her reliance on astrologers and psychics to set the president’s schedule. Jean Dixon was one of the people she relied on the most until one day she decided that Dixon had lost her powers and decided instead to align herself with Dixon’s rival, Joan Quigley.

Dixon was also the author of seven books. She wrote her autobiography as well as horoscopes for dogs, astrological cookbooks and several books on psychic phenomena. Dixon was one of the leading believers in ESP and was a well known influential Washington socialite.

After Kennedy was killed in 1963 the notoriety that hit Dixon because of it drove political columnist Ruth Montgomery to write a book called “A Gift Of Prophecy: the Phenomenal Jean Dixon.” This book told of hundreds of accurate predictions Dixon made throughout the years. The book was published in 1965 and sold more than three million copies. The publishing of this book turned Dixon into an overnight celebrity and made her much in demand to do lectures, and eventually prompted her to start her own syndicated horoscope column, which was printed in newspapers all over the world.

For some reason though Jean Dixon was the psychic that everybody loved to hate. Year after year were reports by countless people that Dixon’s predictions were bogus and that she had never made one that actually came true, including the one about Kennedy’s death. The woman was under constant attack in tabloids all over the country. A respected Mathematician by the name of John Allen Paulos coined what was known as the “Jean Dixon Effect” where people come up with a few accurate predictions but conveniently overlook the hundreds of false predictions that never come true.

The truth is, not all of Jean Dixon’s predictions came true. She predicted that World War III would start in 1958 over some offshore Chinese Islands and that labor leader Walter Reuther would run for president in 1964 and that the Russians would land the first man on the moon.

Jean Dixon may not have always been accurate with her predictions but she will always remain one of the most colorful and well know psychics in history.
