Rep. Jovito Palparan: The Man Who Deserves A Senate Seat!

February 5, 2010

NOTE: I just sent the following letter to retired General and now Cong. Jovito Palparan.

Dear Rep. Palparan,

Good Day!

I hope you’d have enough time to check the contents of this simple blog of mine. I know you to be a courageous, principled man in uniform. I know that the media, particularly the PDI, which is the most read broadsheet in the country, labeled you as a “butcher,” and that they called you unprintable names because of your uncompromising convictions in life. Yet I’m also aware that the communists in this country are expert- or have been trained to be so- in propaganda campaign and myth-making. Yes, I’m also aware that most Filipinos are “closet” socialists, as I’ve stated in this simple blog of mine. And because many Filipinos are “closet” or unconscious socialists, it is understandable that they easily sympathize with the Left, and that they regard our soldiers who “sacrifice” their lives in every battle as nothing but forces of “evil”.

I firmly believe that the problem in this country is primarily cultural and intellectual. It is my view that what reigns in this country is that culture of mediocrity that is being propagated by our educational and media institutions. All of our schools, particularly the elite ones, are preaching the virtue of altruism, sacrifice and collectivism, while rejecting the essence of reason, individualism, self-interest, and capitalism. The evidence is all around us. The media, for instance, are sympathizing with the Left, while our communist politicians in Congress are pushing for socialist legislation like the Reproductive Health bill. Without a doubt, the University of the Philippines is primarily the breeding ground of socialism/communism in this country. Yes, almost all professors and the so-called intellectuals are bringing this country to complete disaster and socialism. It is only expected that when these indoctrinated students graduate, they would bring with them the seeds of the “evil idea” they absorbed from their Leftist professors and liberal intellectuals- the idea man is but a slave to men.

This man had to fulfill his duty...

This man had to fulfill his duty...

I may be right to say that you have devoted more than half of your life to the service of freedom and liberty in this country, a feat that must be respected, prided, honored, and feted and never vilified and demonized. You held on to your principles no matter what the media and your detractors said about you. This reminds me of what Ayn Rand, who is the greatest philosopher after Aristotle, had said more than 30 years ago, which I think, is appropriate to ascribe to this culture of hate and envy that is eating at the core of our semi-socialist society. Ayn Rand once wrote: “Envy is regarded by most people as a petty, superficial emotion and, therefore, it serves as a semi-human cover for so inhuman an emotion that those who feel it seldom dare admit it even to themselves… That emotion is: hatred of the good for being the good.”

We are all engaged in a battle of ideas. Your years of military service  is in pursuant to your sacred oath as the protector of our Constitution and of people’s individual rights. In your hands you held the freedom, liberty and the rights of men in this country that is now bordering on dictatorship and socialism. You must be proud of this very rare achievement.

I share this idea- the contents of this simple blog of mine- with all freedom-loving people in this country. A few great leaders in history like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Ronald Reagan, and Margaret Thatcher all had sense of pride and purpose because they believed in the importance and power of ideas. In 1783, George Washington, the first President of the United States, was called the “greatest man in the world” by King George III for not perpetuating his stay in power. Jefferson, who wrote the greatest document on earth- the Declaration of Independence that not only liberated America from Great Britain, but also led to propagation of the value and essence of liberty and individual rights throughout the world- adhered to the philosophy of Aristotle that “man is an end in himself.” Yes, America became the greatest country on earth because it held the right idea- the idea that man has inalienable rights, and that these rights may only be respected and protected under a proper social system- Capitalism. Individual rights are incompatible with communism, fascism, or any form of collectivism.

Throughout your years of service in the military, you were not simply engaged in an endless war on insurgency and terrorism; you were primarily engaged in a great battle against an evil idea– the idea that man is a slave to men, the idea of communism or collectivism. As an aspiring leader of this collectivized country, you have to make the RIGHT CHOICE. History has it that every fascist government (ruled by a fascist dictator and his cronies) and every socialist/communist regime (ruled by a mystic dictator who governed under a false premise of equality of the proletariat) failed and only caused unimaginable devastation and death because of an evil idea- the idea that man is the means to the ends of others. America achieved its unparalleled, incomparable success in human history because of the idea conceived by its great Founding Fathers- the idea that man is an end in himself, as well as the noble concepts of reason, individualism, and capitalism. Let me state here that America, at least during its early years, was founded upon the philosophy of Aristotle. This is the power of philosophy and idea. Idea is more powerful than a cabal of fully armed men. We have to remember that both Soviet Russia and Maoist China, which caused the death of about 200 million people combined, had been founded on the philosophy of about ten philosophers and thinkers of the last two centuries. We all have the time, means and opportunity to learn from history, and I think it would be unforgivable- it would be the greatest sin a rational man could ever commit- if we Filipinos allow this same horrible mistake to happen in our country.

With this, I seal this humble letter of mine with this inspiring message of Ayn Rand to all human beings in this world who still dare to think:

“In the name of the best within you, do not sacrifice this world to those who are its worst. In the name of the values that keep you alive, do not let your vision of man be distorted by the ugly, the cowardly, the mindless in those who have never achieved his title. Do not lose your knowledge that man’s proper estate is an upright posture, an intransigent mind and a step that travels unlimited roads. Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it’s yours.”

Thank you for your “selfish” service to our country.

Good premises,

Vincent

So long as their is no better idea to defeat the Communists they will linger on.

Cong. Palparan, now a senatorial candidate, is committed to defeat communism in this country. Because of this, the communists have not ended their propaganda attack against him when he was retired from the military. They call him “berdugo”, yet, there is no evidence that he has killed any person. He has defeated the communists in his areas of assignments because of his dedication to duty as a soldier. The fact that none of his men were convicted of any criminal act means that they have fought the communists by the rules of engagement. Even independent fact finding commissions have not recommended his prosecution. Therefore, there was nothing foul about his performance of duty.

The communists would like to call him as such, a “berdugo”. By implication, they want to be called “angels”. Yet, we know that they have created killing fields that included their own comrade in arms. It is not my job to show how horrible they are. This is the job of their former comrade in arms who have realized that they have been unjust, even their own people. They kill in the name of their own form of justice. It is not surprising if they will not stop to assassinate the character of Cong. Palparan.

But, in their desperation to portray Cong. Palparan as a “butcher or berdugo”, they only make the person a hero. Cong. Palparan will not win a seat in Congress, if not for the people he has liberated from the claws of communist oppression. His friends will not be enough. It takes more than friendship to send somebody to Congress.

The thing with the communists in our country is that they use the method used by Mao Tse Tung instead of floating their ideas in a peaceful competition for popular support as the socialists did in Europe. Socialism has many good points so does democracy. Both have strengths and weaknesses. In fact, as an economic system, they tend to converge. The socialist ideology realizes the importance of an open market system which presupposes some form of economic freedom, while democratic ideology adopts socialistic practices in health, education, and ownership of certain types of corporations by the state. There is no more pure economic system now a days; we only have mixed system. The bottom line is that we can have the best of both worlds without the use of force.

For as long as the communists in this country use force and de ception to attain their objectives, Cong. Palparan will become more and more a hero. The stronger the communists become, the more popular Cong. Palparan will be. For now, only the cream of the intellectuals and professionals realize the need for him. Many lesser intellectuals think that he, indeed, was “a butcher” (without trial). When the communist propaganda against him is defeated by counter-propaganda by him and other allied organizations aggrieved by the communists, more people will realize that he is a symbol of everything against communist oppression. The strong communist propaganda is making a hero out of this man. He only needs resources and more enlightenment from intellectuals to protect himself. Now, he is weak, but the idea he represents can not be stopped. In the future, he will attract more people to rally behind him, for as long as the communists use force and intimidation to keep our people from the countrysides subservient to their own form of socialist (Maoist) ideology.

“There is no more pure economic system now a days; we only have mixed system. The bottom line is that we can have the best of both worlds without the use of force.”
I agree. I have been saying that we are a mixed economy bordering on dictatorship.
I also wrote the following blog article to explain Why the Communists are Advancing to Take Away Our Freedom.

We will surely need a McCarthy, if you ask me.

      • April 19, 2010 3:38

McCarthyism is a smear term concocted by the Leftists and Liberals in the United States. Let me quote Ayn Rand who rejected the term McCarthyism:

“In the late 1940’s, another newly coined term was shot into our cultural arteries: “McCarthyism.” Again, it was a derogatory term, suggesting some insidious evil, and without any clear definition. Its alleged meaning was: “Unjust accusations, persecutions, and character assassinations of innocent victims.” Its real meaning was: “Anti-communism.”

“Senator McCarthy was never proved guilty of those allegations, but the effect of that term was to intimidate and silence public discussions. Any uncompromising denunciation of communism or communists was—and still is—smeared as “McCarthyism.” As a consequence, opposition to and exposés of communist penetration have all but vanished from our intellectual scene. (I must mention that I am not an admirer of Senator McCarthy, but not for the reasons implied in that smear.)”

You should be a little careful. You might get out of hand you know. You are creating your own propaganda. This country still has a sufficient number of communists that could attack you. The fact that the second world war started on mere political ideologies should tell you that this political war should not be taken so lightly. Hah, I’m wildly guessing that the next war could be a communist counter-attack once capitalism/democracy fails. You are no different from U.P.’s activists. You all try to convince others that what you believe is the perfect solution to everything.
